Gianfranco Grilli releases “Come To The Light Of Day!” on Tantric Harmonies. Earlier he already released “Il Tempo Di Karnak” and “Le Colline Dei Druidi”. The artwork on his latest limited album is very gothic, with a lot of black, grey, cathedrals, old runes and dramatic fonds. The titles prepare the listener for the worst. We begin with 'The Burial', then we get 'The Detachment of The Body' and after some more dramatic titles we conclude with 'The Return To The Grave'. Contrary to my expectation, Gianfranco Grilli doesn't make drone-like, dark ambient. The type that heavily depends on long spun out bass tones or distorted voices and choirs. Nope, the music I get to listen to on “Come To The Light Of Day!” reminds me very much of Jean Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze and other eighties synthesizer magicians.

The music Gianfranco makes is easy to follow and one wonders of in a pleasant dreamlike state while listening to his creations. Once in a while a heavy drum is introduced, but these contribute nicely to the easy, ambient like mood. Sometimes Gianfranco sounds very predictable however. The songs are very long spun out (the shortest lasts ten minutes, the longest track takes twenty minutes to finish) and I get annoyed when I find out that I can predict some of the synth-sounds even during the first time listening.

Still, Gianfranco Grilli has delivered us with a nice and pleasant to listen to ambient album with a big wink to the old eighties synthesizer masters.
